Heartbreaking Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Increases to 13
The total count of fatalities due to the UPS cargo plane that burst into flames and crashed has risen to 13, according to latest reports.
City Leader's Announcement
Traveling to the Union’s vigil, I received word of a thirteenth victim that died as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” stated the local official in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, friends and co-workers of all who were lost in this recent disaster. We will overcome this together.”
Casualties Confirmed
A release from UPS identified the pilots on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies go out to every staff member who has been impacted and all in our Louisville region – assisting you and ensuring you obtain the care and aid you need is our priority,” the firm’s message expressed.
Inquiry Updates
National officials announced that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing ignited and an engine separated shortly after takeoff from the airfield, causing the plane to crash and erupt into a fireball.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is investigating the plane’s service record, that was in Texas for maintenance weeks ahead of the crash.
Flight tracking data showed the aircraft was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from the start of last month to mid-October.
“We are aware that this plane was present in that city,” said an investigator on later, without a exact period. “We will examine each aspect of repairs that was done, including the San Antonio visit, straight to the day of the flight.”
Recovery of Critical Components
The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the engine was located on the airfield.
The devices – called flight recorders – were constructed to withstand accident forces and intense heat from blazes, and they looked to be in one piece when discovered among the remains. Authorities plan on examining recordings from the recorders.
Jet’s final flight details displayed an altitude of that level and a speed of that speed ahead of the accident.
Service Record
According to aviation authority documents dated last month, a fracture on a component in the fuel container demanded maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies airframe maintenance for the company’s aircraft and operates a repair facility in Texas, declined to provide remarks, but stated it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities reached out it.
Operations Resume
In the meantime, UPS Worldport services restarted that evening with its Next Day Air also known as evening operation, spokesperson the company official confirmed. All three landing strips at the aviation hub were likewise back in operation.
The sorting center in the city is the organization’s biggest. The facility engages more than a large number of workers in the locality, processes 300 trips per day and organizes in excess of 400,000 items an hour.
Local Response
A memorial was conducted on the evening of that date by the local labor union, which supports workers at the airfield, the firm’s largest freight center.
The union chapter, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the approximate moment of the incident two days earlier.
“This event was so sudden, so surprising,” the official addressed the crowd of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to part to any of those who we have lost.”
